Philodendron gloriosum

Philodendron gloriosum is a stunning tropical plant known for its large, velvety heart-shaped leaves with striking white veins. This slow-growing, crawling plant is a terrestrial species that adds elegance and a lush, tropical feel to indoor collections or shaded outdoor gardens. Growing to a height of 30–50 cm with a spread of up to 1 meter, it is perfect as a feature plant in containers or part of a tropical garden bed.

Position

Philodendron gloriosum thrives in bright, indirect light, making it ideal for indoor spaces. Outdoors, it prefers shaded or semi-shaded locations. It grows best in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil and appreciates warm, humid conditions. Sensitive to frost, it is suited for tropical and subtropical climates or protected indoor environments.

Growth

This slow-growing plant is a crawler rather than a climber, spreading horizontally along the surface of the soil. It reaches a mature height of 30–50 cm and can spread up to 1 meter. Its velvety leaves with prominent white veining make it an eye-catching choice for adding a luxurious touch to indoor or outdoor spaces.

Planting Guide

Philodendron gloriosum grows best in well-drained, airy soil enriched with organic matter. For indoor planting, use a high-quality aroid mix with materials like orchid bark, perlite, and peat moss for good aeration. Place the plant in a bright, indirect light location. Outdoors, plant in a shaded area with moist, well-drained soil. Water thoroughly after planting, and mulch around the base to retain moisture and protect roots.

Plant Care

Water regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top layer of soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Feed with a balanced, diluted fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during the growing season to encourage healthy growth and vibrant leaves. Wipe leaves gently to remove dust and maintain their velvety texture. Repot every 2–3 years or as needed to allow space for the creeping rhizome.

Accessible, fun, and exciting.
Format: Kindle
While this book is aimed at younger readers (it includes, for examples, expletives like "Zooks!" and "Zounds!"), I Escaped The Tower of London is a neat historical fiction novella with taught pacing that readers of all ages can enjoy. Using the real-life account of John Gerard as inspiration, the authors have created a young boy who escapes from the Tower of London while attempting to aid Princess Elizabeth during Queen Mary's reign. It's exciting, it fast-paced, and it even has a pleasant message about doing the right thing — even when the right thing is hard to do. It's packed with a hodgepodge of images (most of them public domain, but also a few original pieces) that add to the experience. And the end includes a brief lesson on the historical figures involved. Despite the source material, you shouldn't worry if you (or your young ones) are squeamish; the main character sidesteps the torture and there's very little violence. All in all, quite a good read. Very accessible, surprisingly fun and exciting.

wow!
Format: Kindle
What an amazing story that tells about history from the perspective of a kid named Ben that was pretty much forced (but was thankful for the work) to work with coal in the Tower of London, to find out Princess Elizabeth was arrested and sent to the same tower. The plot thickens as he helps her escape. He was met with many challenges, but his best friend Tim helped him always, what a faithful friend! I absolutely love and adore this story because it’s based on history and real life facts, these things actually happened! But when you read it, the author has written it so well it almost sounds like a fantasy! I can’t wait to read more, it’s such a great book, I give it 5 stars but really it deserves 10! Highly recommend!

Don't let this great middle grade book escape you.
Format: Paperback
I am an Anglophile and love the history of England. This book was an incredible read and fed my addiction fully with Renaissance England inspired history and fiction featuring Ben, a 15 year of commoner and an accidental hero who finds himself a prison let working the Tower’s dreadful jail. This spry has short chapters that will appeal to children with a short attention span, and the storyline like the other installment feature children using real life problem solving skills as they help others. This is an overall great read and highly recommended.
